God Is In ControlBack in 1993, Twila Paris released a song entitled “God Is In Control”. The chorus goes like this,

God is in control
We believe that His children will not be forsaken – God is in control
We will choose to remember and never be shaken – There is no power above or beside Him, we know – Oh, God is in control, oh God is in control

I love that line that says, “there is no power above or beside Him, we know…”. But do we always “know” that God is in control?

When storms hit; when bills are due and there is no money in the bank; when you get a call from the doctor with some bad news, do we really know and understand that God is in control?

I am preparing to teach a lesson this Sunday on “The Day The Sun Stood Still”. I will be talking to a group of elementary children on about how, when all seemed lost for Joshua, that he prayed to God to make the sun stand still. To kids, the fact that God made the sun stand still for almost a day seems pretty cool, but what hit me today was what God told Joshua in verse 8, even before Joshua asked for the sun to stand still.

God said to Joshua, “Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands.” Did you notice that statement was in past tense? God had already decided on the outcome, but Israel still had to do some fighting.

I don’t know what you are going through nor do I know of what you will face in your life. You don’t know what I am facing in my life as well, but we can know for sure that God is in control!

I love what Psalms 115:3 says,

Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.

I Chronicles 29:11 should give us some great comfort to know that God has everything under control.

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.

I love this quote by Alistair Begg,

All of the ebb and flow of history is to be viewed in light that there is a throne in heaven, that throne is not empty, it is occupied by God and God is in control.
