O Great God – A Prayer Song

I love listening and singing music from Bob Kauflin & Sovereign Grace Music. They have been writing God-exalting songs for over 30 years that the church enjoys singing.

Bob Kauflin is the director of Sovereign Grace Music and has been writing music for most of his life. He spent several years touring with the group GLAD. He has also written several books entitled Worship Matters & True Worshippers.

One particular song that Bob has written is entitled “O Great God”. It is a beautiful ballad of worship to God. This song was birthed from the prayer “Regeneration”. The words to this prayer go like this:

Occupy the throne of my heart, take full possession and reign supreme,
lay low every rebel lust, let no vile passion resist they holy war;
manifest thy mighty power, and make me thine for ever.
Thou art worthy to be praised with my every breath,
loved with my every faculty of soul served with my every act of life.

Bob wanted to set this prayer to music because of how often he asked God to do whatever he needed to do to make him love and glorify God more.

This is a great song for all of us to sing that would help remind us to love and glorify HIM more. Take a look at the words and then click on the link at the bottom to watch and listen to the song. I am excited to introduce this to my church!

O great God of highest heaven
Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore

I was blinded by my sin
Had no ears to hear Your voice
Did not know Your love within
Had no taste for heaven’s joys
Then Your Spirit gave me life
Opened up Your Word to me
Through the gospel of Your Son
Gave me endless hope and peace

Help me now to live a life
That’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
From the evils that I face
You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me

Lord, let this be my prayer – that I would love and glorify You more and more each day!

O Come Emmanuel

“O Come, O Come Emmanuel” is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Christ came the first time to pay the ultimate price for all of our sins – His life. The Holy, Spotless, Lamb of God was our only hope.

With the way the world is today, this song takes on a whole new meaning. I think of the verse in Revelation 22:20 which says,

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

I am ready for HIM to come again! Are you? O come, O Come Emmanuel!

You Are My Shepherd

I love Pandora radio. I have it playing in my office all the time. Over the past few months I have been hearing a song that I just can not get out of my head.

Today I heard it again – “You Are My Shepherd” by Tricia Brock. What an amazing song! It was inspired by Psalm 23.

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The words to the chorus go like this:

You are my shepherd in the wilderness. Whom shall I fear?
You are the God who goes before me, My Rock and my Shield.
In troubled times You will provide and I shall not want. You are, You are my God.

INDIVISIBLE: One Nation Under God

Indivisible_Book_CoverBack in January of this year, a good friend of mine approached me about the possibility of our choirs combining and performing a Fourth of July program called “INDIVISIBLE: One Nation Under God”.

I want to thank Tim Williams for asking me to be a part of this great program. On June 30th, 2013, INDIVISIBLE was performed at Mile Straight Baptist Church.

The following words were written by Randy Vader, the author and writer of INDIVISIBLE.

Indivisible – united in such a way that those individual parts create one entity, individual effort contributing to the whole. Our nation has experienced the blessings of this more per- fect union. We have endured wars, economic depression, famine and natural disasters. Our Union has survived a great Civil War and played a major role in defending freedom around the world.

Indivisible – a United States preserved and protected by the hand of God. No other nation in history has been so blessed. Why America? America stands alone as the only government ever built on a creed. This creed is anchored in the belief that all of us are created equal and endowed by our Creator God with certain rights that cannot be taken away, rights that tran- scend governmental intervention; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The greatest example of INDIVISIBLE is taught to us in the Holy Bible. Paul in his letter to the Romans teaches us that God’s love toward us is indeed, by the Lord’s promise, indivisible.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

We remain a nation united by bonds of the Divine. We are a people who have learned that shoulder to shoulder we are united; hand in hand we are one. Let us live out the greatness of our beloved country, celebrate a union of many cultures sharing the unique heritage that is The United States of America, and let us boldly proclaim – “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

After several weeks of editing, I am proud to present to you “INDIVISIBLE: One Nation Under God“. I hope you enjoy!
