Worship Wednesday: “Somewhere In Your Silent Night”

Today’s Worship Wednesday song comes to us from Casting Crowns and their newly released album “It’s Finally Christmas”. The song is entitled “Somewhere In Your Silent Night”.

During this Christmas season, my church is doing a series entitled “The Candles of Advent”. Each week, we talk about another candle and what that candle represents. This past week we talked about the candle of Peace. It was said that until we know the Prince of Peace, we will never truly know peace.

The second line of today’s song says:

From heaven’s height to manger low

There is no distance the Prince of Peace won’t go

From manger low to Calvary’s hill

When your pain runs deep

His love runs deeper still

He has always loved you, child And He always will

WOW! Love those words. There is NO distance the Prince of Peace won’t go. That is how much Jesus loves you.

I hope you draw encouragement from today’s Worship Wednesday song and I hope it causes you to worship HIM more.

Worship Wednesday: “He Who Is Mighty”

I love Christmas music! I mean, I really love Christmas music. So today’s Worship Wednesday song begins 5 weeks of songs that center around the birth of our Savior.

Today’s song is entitled “He Who Is Mighty” from Sovereign Grace Music.

The first verse says this:

Oh, the mercy our God has shown
To those who sit in death’s shadow
The sun on high pierced the night
Born was the Cornerstone

The chorus echoes with these words:

He Who is mighty has done a great thing
Taken on flesh, conquered death’s sting
Shattered the darkness and lifted our shame
Holy is His name

The songwriters looked at Isaiah 9:2-7 & Luke 1:46-49 for the inspiration for this song.

Isaiah 9:2-7 (ESV)

2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
3 You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor,
you have broken as on the day of Midian.
5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

I hope you enjoy today’s Worship Wednesday song and I hope that you worship HIM today because He is the one who “conquered death’s sting … Holy Is His Name”

The Christmas Music Madness Is Back!

Christmas Music Madness

In 2012, I hosted the first Christmas Music Madness here on my blog and we all had so much fun. It has been three years since the first one and it is time to do it again. There are so many new Christmas songs that have come out in the past three years and plus I have a lot of new followers to my blog. I hope that you will play along with this and have fun!

Here is what the Christmas Music Madness 2015 is all about. It is to find my reader’s favorite Christmas song – secular or religious. Once nominations are over, I will place the songs in a 16 team bracket for a battle to the end and to be crowned the Christmas Music Madness Champion.

Here is how it works. There will be one week of nominations of your favorite Christmas song. You can nominate one song per day – each day or you can nominate a different song each day – every day. It is that simple.

After the week of nominations are over, I will calculate the votes and the song with the most number of nominations goes into the #1 spot in the bracket. The top 16 songs nominated will be placed in the bracket and move on into the Sweet 16 Round.

The following is the schedule for the Christmas Music Madness 2015:

Nomination Week: November 26 – December 4
The Sweet 16: December 6 – December 11
The Elite 8: December 13 – December 18
The Final Four: December 20 – December 25
The Finals: December 26th – December 31
The Christmas Music Madness 2015 Champion crowned: January 1, 2016

So, quick review – from November 26 – December 4, you can submit one song per day of your favorite Christmas song (be sure to come back each day). After nominations are closed and tallied, the brackets will be set and the voting will being on December 6. You can then vote for your song one time each day. The song with the most votes will move on to the next round until we have eliminated all of the songs except one – the Christmas Music Madness 2015 Champion!

Let the MADNESS begin – Nominate your song here!

The Final Four (Upsets Happen)

The Final FourWe are down to the Final Four movies in our Christmas Movie Madness and yes Virginia, upsets do happen! We had the following movies paired against each other last week in our Elite Eight round:

#1 – It’s A Wonderful Life vs #9 – A Christmas Story

#2 – National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation vs #10 – Miracle on 34th Street

#3 – Elf vs #6 – The Santa Clause

#4 – The Nativity Story vs #12 – The Polar Express

The top three movies in the Christmas Movie Madness have moved on to the Final Four, but The Nativity Story was ousted by The Polar Express.

As we move closer to the Championship Game, the voting get more difficult. The Final Four pairings are as follows:

#1 – It’s A Wonderful LIfe is going against #12 – The Polar Express while #2 – National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation has its work cut out for it as it faces #3 – Elf.

Could we have an upset in the Final Four round? VOTE NOW!

O Come Emmanuel

“O Come, O Come Emmanuel” is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Christ came the first time to pay the ultimate price for all of our sins – His life. The Holy, Spotless, Lamb of God was our only hope.

With the way the world is today, this song takes on a whole new meaning. I think of the verse in Revelation 22:20 which says,

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

I am ready for HIM to come again! Are you? O come, O Come Emmanuel!
