One of the things that I have focused on for the past several years at my church is to introduce new music that is grounded in God’s Word. That just makes sense, but there are some songs that the church has sung for years that are neither grounded nor rooted in scripture.

We should be singing biblical songs! Keith Getty made this statement several years ago at a conference I attended. He said, “We should sing our theology”. He is absolutely correct. We should sing what we believe.

I would like to challege every worship pastor, music director or anyone else that leads music to really look at the words and make sure that what you are leading and singing is based on scripture.

One such song that is grounded is today’s Worship Wednesday song entitled “Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me”. This song was written in 2018 by CityAlight. I hope you enjoy and worship Him today!

[Verse 1]
What gift of grace is Jesus, my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

[Chorus 1]
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing: All is mine!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

[Verse 2]
The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Saviour He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed

[Chorus 2]
To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley, He will lead
Oh, the night has been won, and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

[Verse 3]
No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave

I am excited to introduce this song to my church in the near future!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. People & families will be gathering around a table all over the world to celebrate this day that is set aside to “Give Thanks”.

To some, it is just a day to eat as much turkey, ham, and dressing as possible. A day to sit and watch football. A day off work or out of school.

To others, it is a day where they are truly grateful for what they have and from whom all that they have has been given.

So, because of Thanksgiving, I wanted to make today’s Worship Wednesday song “My Heart Is Filled with Thankfulness” from Keith & Kristen Getty.

I hope tomorrow (and all year-long) is filled with thanks & praise to our God above. I hope you enjoy!

Today’s Worship Wednesday song comes from Keith & Kristyn Getty entitled “He Will Hold Me Fast”. WOW, what amazing and comforting words.

I don’t know if you are having a difficult time in your life right now or not, but at some point, you will and these words are very encouraging to hear.

The Gettys have this to say about this song:

From the first time we heard this song written by Matt Merker, we felt it was a unique jewel that would be a comfort and encouragement to God’s people as we live out faith in these difficult times, whether in suffering, persecution or death. It reminded us of the Spirituals and also of the hymn, “We Rest on Thee” (which inspired the missionary Jim Elliot and the title of his biography, “Through Gates of Splendor”). Interestingly, the Finish melody, “Finlandia,” is also the melodic basis of the hymn, “Be Still My Soul,” that was the favorite hymn of Eric Liddell, famous Olympic gold medalist who retired early from Sport to return to China, home of his birth, and serve as missionary.

I hope you find encouragement and rest today in knowing, that if you know HIM as your Lord and Savior, He is holding you fast today!

It has been a little over a month since I posted a Worship Wednesday song, and for that I am sorry. I was off for several weeks and getting ready for that was just crazy.

So, here we go!

Today’s Worship Wednesday song comes from Keith & Kristin Getty (modern-day hymn writers) entitled “The Lord Is My Salvation”. In the book of Psalm we read:

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

Psalm 62:1-2

We must understand that without the grace of God, we are nothing more than sinful, depraved sinner destined for an eternity in hell.

BUT GOD! (I love these two words!!!!!!)

This song starts out with these words:

The grace of God has reached for me. And pulled me from the raging sea, and I am safe on this solid ground – The Lord is my salvation!

The song builds to the tag with the words:

Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son, glory be to God the Spirit, the Lord is my salvation!

I hope you find this song encouraging today and it causes us to understand a little more clearly that without HIM we are nothing! He is our God, our Sustainer, our Rock, our Redeemer, our Savior, our Provider, our Healer – and HE is our SALVATION!
