Worship Wednesday – “Is He Worthy?”

As Christians, we all seem to lose our focus on Christ from time to time. The great hymn writer Robert Robinson, even added our loss of focus to his song when he penned “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”.

O to grace how great a debtor, daily I’m constrained to be!

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee.

Prone to wonder, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;

Here’s my heart, Lord, take a seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.

So, from time to time, we need to be reminded of who we are but more importantly, we need to be reminded of who HE is.

Today’s Worship Wednesday song is entitled “Is He Worthy?” from Andrew Peterson. Peterson has written this song as a reminder to us as to the power and worth of God Almighty! We are reminded of His power and worth in chapter 5 in the book of Revelation. It says,

Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying,

“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”

I hope you enjoy “Is He Worthy?” and worship our Lord today because He is the ONLY ONE WORTHY!

Do you feel the world is broken? (We do)
Do you feel the shadows deepen? (We do)
But do you know that all the dark won’t stop the light from getting through? (We do)
Do you wish that you could see it all made new? (We do)

Is all creation groaning? (It is)
Is a new creation coming? (It is)
Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst? (It is)
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? (It is)

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this?
He is

What is God’s Purpose For Worship?

In 2017, God allowed my wife and I to attend a conference called The SING! Conference, sponsored by Keith & Kristin Getty. It was held in Nashville, Tennessee, and the focus of the conference was to encourage pastors and music directors to engage the church to sing more for the glory of God!

We were not able to attend last year’s conference but I just recently came across a video of one of the speakers, David Platt, and wanted to share it with you. Platt said this,

God blesses his people for the sake of His praise among all people.

You and I are prone to disconnect God’s blessing in our lives from God’s purpose for our lives.

So, what is the purpose of worship? What is YOUR purpose of worship and does it match up with GOD’s purpose for worship?

Take a moment and watch the following video clip of David Platt talking about God’s purpose for worship!
